Altru Health System, a 322-bed (medical center and specialty hospital), community-owned, integrated health system, has an outstanding opportunity for the newly created position of Director of Cancer Services.  Morgan Hunter HealthSearch has been retained to lead this critical search.

This teaching hospital offers comprehensive care services to 200,000 residents in the Red River Valley of northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.  Through two hospital locations, 13 Grand Forks practices and 11 regional clinics, patients have access to the expertise of the Mayo Clinic Network.  Specialty care includes the Family Birthing Center, Cancer Center, Advanced Orthopedics, as well as one of the Nations Top 100 Hospitals for cardiovascular care. Altru has recently announced the construction of a new 21st century hospital and campus reorganization, representing a commitment of $250 million in improvements.

Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director Cancer Services will utilize a service line approach to oversee all aspects of the Cancer Center, which provides medical and radiation oncology, infusion services, palliative care, genetic testing and research.  The director will establish and execute short and long-term strategic planning focused on programs, operations, compliance, accreditation, process improvement and quality initiatives, and marketing.  Cancer Center FTEs include employed providers, nurses and non-clinical support staff.  There is a Nurse Manager reporting directly to this position, who will oversee daily operations.

Candidates will present with a minimum of three to five years of service line leadership experience.  While there is a preference for oncology, other customary service line backgrounds are acceptable.  Educational requirements include a Bachelors’ degree in a relevant discipline, such as business administration, healthcare management or nursing.  A Masters’ degree is preferred.

Grand Forks is the third largest city in North Dakota with a metro area population of over 98,000. Situated on the banks of Red River of the North, it is the home to the University of North Dakota with its law, aerospace and medical school, as well as 12 public and private primary and secondary education sites.  The local economy is diversified through healthcare, education, wind power, retail food processing, light aircraft manufacturing and an Air Force Base.  A variety of available housing includes mansions from the 1800s to new construction on the south side of town.
